Austine
Austine Odera was
born 19 years ago in Seka Kagwa village in Rachuonyo North Sub
–County, Homa Bay County. He is the second born son in a family of
four children. Austine is a partial orphan since his father has died
and he is under care of his mother Gladys Akinyi who is a small scale
farmer in the village.
In 2011,
Austine
was selected among other scholars for the TOD (“Strengthening
the House of Nanny”) Program after
meeting the set criteria set by the project committee for support in
secondary school. He joined Karabondi Bidii Secondary School in form
one and maintained good performance which made him excel in his final
forth form exams in 2014.
Austine
managed to score B (plain) in his final KCSE exams in 2014
and got
admission to Maseno University for a Bachalor of Arts (Business
Studies with IT). He is currently a first year second semester
student. He is promising to work hard in university so that he can
also help other deserving children in the community.
During
holidays, he is
always involved in mentoring fellow students who are still in school
especially his fellow scholars. Austin intends be become an expert in
business management and thereby uplift not only his families economic
status but also the status of the community. Austin has been of great
inspiration to not only his fellow scholars but also to other youth
within his community. He has instilled in them a sense of hope and
determination.
